Baghdad Chairman of the Leadership Council of the Alliance of National State Forces, Haider Al-Abadi, discussed with the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jeanine Plasschaert, the situation in the country, the work of the UNAMI mission, and its future programs, in addition to early elections, and the UN monitoring of it.
During the meeting, Al-Abadi welcomed the decision of the UN Security Council to send a UN team to monitor the elections in accordance with Iraqi sovereignty, stressing, according to a statement from his office that the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) received a copy of it, the importance of holding the elections on time and that the conditions that paves the way for fair elections in which no pressure is exercised and the will of the voter is falsified.

He pointed out: “The country is going through many challenges and there must be real solutions to these challenges according to prepared plans,” stressing at the same time the need to preserve the prestige of the state and respect institutions, as the country needs stability in order to rebuild it and provide services to its people.
He stressed: “Early elections are very important in correcting many wrong paths and strengthening people’s confidence in the political process,” calling on the United Nations mission to “actively contribute to monitoring the elections to assure citizens that their votes will be protected from manipulation, and thus encourage them to cast their votes.”
