Bayati Rules Out A Political Consensus On The Election Law

BAGHDAD - A member of the House of Representatives from the state of coalition, Abbas al-Bayati ruled out reaching a political consensus on the election law this week.

He told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that "there will not be an agreement on the election law this week, and a meeting today between the heads of blocs and the Presidency, will be held in order to agree on the points of contention."

"The points of contention have not moved from their place towards a solution for Kirkuk, and I do not think, there will not be vote on the law this week and will be postponed to next week's sessions," al-Bayati said.

It is noteworthy that the provincial elections law is witnessing a wide disagreement on a number of points, including the proportion of the approved number of seats and another on the age of the candidate and the third related to Kirkuk and other paragraphs.
