Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, on Tuesday contacted by phone Shiite Islamic cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani and congratulated him on the liberation of Mosul.
Berri stressed the importance of preserving "the unity of Iraq, land, people and institutions."
He also hailed Ayatollah Sistani's fatwa, "which established the basis for the return of Iraq to the ranks of victory over the myth of terrorism."
Berri sent similar congratulatory cables to Iraqi President, Mohammed Fouad al-Masum, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, and Speaker Salim al-Jubouri.
On another level, Berri will head the meeting of the parliament's bureau on Wednesday afternoon.
