BAGHDAD / House Speaker, Salim al-Jubouri discussed with the representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jan Kubis developments in the battle to liberate Mosul from Daesh, and great achievement of the Iraqi forces in this battle, as well as the humanitarian conditions of the people of Mosul in light of ongoing battles to liberate the city, and the role of the UN in rallying international efforts to provide relief supplies to them.
The two sides also discussed, according to the Speaker of the Parliament press office today, "the security and political situation in Iraq and the work of the House of Representatives with the beginning of the current legislative term.
Jubouri, during the meeting, confirmed that "the parliament is determined to legislation important laws, including the Federal Court Act, the Judicial Council, and the electoral law, the law on social security, as well as the resumption of the Constitutional Committee to its tasks in order to reach a required constitutional amendment, pointing out that the council also will continue its oversight role to ensure the fight against all kinds of corruption.
For his part, Kubis confirmed that "the United Nations is interested in pursuing the file of human rights and displaced persons and their humanitarian situations and relief, and all that would bring stability to Iraq, noting at the same time, the importance of the role of the House of Representatives in achieving the necessary legislation and address all problems through permanent and fruitful dialogue, adding that the United Nations is fully agreed with him on this matter.
