BAGHDAD – The US-led International Coalition stressed that the convoy carrying Daesh gunmen and their families and heading to Deir al-Zour was divided into two groups, the US-led coalition said.
“The convoy is trying to reach the territory controlled by the organization in Syria, and a group of buses remained in the desert, while another group returned to areas controlled by the Syrian government,” the international coalition said in a briefing today.
“The coalition will monitor the convoy and prevent it from entering the territory controlled by the organization, and the remaining buses in the desert, which includes fighters and their families who received food and water.”
The convoy was launched on 28 August from the Kalamoun district of Deir al-Zour towards the border area of Albu Kamal with Iraq, under an agreement between the Lebanese Hezbollah and the organization after about 12 days of bombing and fierce fighting, allowed the organization’s gunmen and their families to leave the Lebanese – Syrian border to the areas controlled by the organization east of Syria.
