Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani met with King Abdullah of Jordan in Amman today. The King and the President discussed the political and security developments in Iraq, in particular the latest situation in the Anbar province and efforts to counter the IS terrorists. They also discussed bilateral relations between the Kingdom and the Kurdistan Region and ways to further expand these ties.
President Barzani arrived in Amman, Jordan, on Thursday at the invitation of King Abdullah, and is scheduled to participate in the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa being held in the Dead Sea area.
During his stay in Jordan, the President met with Egyptian President Abdul Fatah AlbSisi, King Abdullah of Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss political and security developments in the region, in particular confronting the threat of the IS.
The Egyptian President praised the leadership of President Barzani and the bravery of the Peshmerga forces in fighting the IS and expressed his country’s support to the Kurdistan Region.
President Barzani also met with Iraq’s Speaker of the Council of Representatives Salim AlbJibouri and Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister Baha AlbAraji to discuss the latest political and security challenges facing Iraq and the fight against the IS . They also discussed relations between Erbil and Baghdad and the need to strengthen ties between the two sides.
