Baghdad Civil organizations and academic elites launched a popular campaign to collect one million signatures to reject the amendment of Article 57 of the Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959.
Hundreds of civil and political organizations and personalities participated in the campaign of one million electronic signatures on social media platforms and sites, tagged with the hashtag #Children are of Her Right, refusing to take away the mother’s right to custody of her children.
The House of Representatives, in its session held on Thursday last week, completed the first reading of the proposed law amending Personal Status Law No. 188 of 1959.
