Iranian-Iraqi Talks To Complete Shalamcheh-Basra Railway

Baghdad Iran and Iraq discussed ways to Complete the railway connection project between Shalamcheh and Basra.

According to the Iranian media, “the Iranian Assistant Minister of Roads and Urban Reconstruction, Amir Mahmoud Ghafari, held a joint meeting in Baghdad today, Wednesday, with the Minister of Transport, Nasser Hussein Bandar, to discuss ways to advance the rail link project between Shalamcheh (southwest of Iran) and Basra.”

Iranian media added, “The meeting, which took place with the participation of the delegations of the two countries, along with an official at the Iranian embassy in Baghdad, during which the two sides signed the minutes of the meeting on the implementation of the Shalamcheh-Basra railway project, and read the letter of the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Reconstruction, Muhammad Islami, in this context as well”

Ghafari said in a statement on the sidelines of the meeting: The Shalamcheh-Basra railroad plays a key role in strengthening regional cooperation and developing the process of transporting passengers and goods between the two neighboring countries, Iran and Iraq.

He added, “All problems related to the implementation and financing of this project will be resolved soon, so that it can start implementing it within the next month as a maximum.”
