Baghdad The third round of political consultations between the Republic of Iraq and the People’s Republic of China was held, headed by the Senior Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nizar Al-Khairallah on the Iraqi side, and the Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li, with the participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to China, Shorsh Khaled Saeed.
According to a Ministry statement, the two sides reviewed the most important steps taken by the two countries in developing bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, in addition to addressing regional and international issues that concern the interests of both sides.
They emphasized the congruence of stances towards the necessity of solving the problems plaguing the Middle East region by peaceful means as they negatively affect the security and stability of the entire region.
They also agreed on the need for continuous coordination to support confronting the coronavirus, combating terrorism and extremism, and exchanging information on terrorist movements.
For his part, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Deng Li affirmed his government’s support for the electoral process to be held in October, noting that his government appreciates Iraq’s efforts to ease tension in the region through initiatives among some countries in the region, and China strongly supports Iraq’s return to play its important and the active role in the region.
