MP: There are agendas, corruption mafias, and the interests of countries that do not want Iraq to leave the need for them to control the internal decision

Baghdad A member of the House of Representatives for the Progress Alliance Raad Al-Dahlaki confirmed today, Wednesday, that the resignation of the Minister of Electricity did not solve the problem, but on the contrary made it more complicated at this critical time, pointing to the importance of addressing the crisis and finding solutions to it in an integrated manner between the legislative and executive authorities instead of exporting the problem left and right.

Al-Dahlaki said in a statement: “While we commend the Minister of Electricity’s step and courage to resign at a time when we found this culture almost non-existent in the political process, and despite our full knowledge of the experience, efficiency and professionalism of the Minister within his field of work during the years of his career and specialist gradation, and not being drawn into narrow agendas, we believe that this step complicated the problem instead of solving it,” he asked, “Does the person who will take his place at this critical time, high temperatures, the systematic targeting of power plants and towers, the accumulations of previous years, and billions of dollars that were wasted without results possess the stick of Moses to solve all these problems?”

Al-Dahlaki added, “The electricity crisis is big and dangerous, and there are agendas and mafias of corruption and the interests of countries that do not want Iraq to get out of the need for them to control the internal decision, and they are benefiting from the fact that the electricity situation remains like this for both economic and political purposes, and the systematic targeting of energy transmission towers is the best evidence of that.” Agendas, therefore, would have been better for the Minister of Electricity to attend the parliament and discuss all these files in a public session and to put everything he has and everything he is exposed to in public before public opinion, and we will be obligated at that time to provide everything the ministry needs to alleviate the crisis, at least at this stage.

He stressed that “the House of Representatives, the national forces and the Prime Minister are required to have a clear position and to form a joint crisis cell to address the security, economic and political problem of electricity and not to escape from it by offering some personalities, including the Minister of Electricity, offerings to silence the disgruntled masses of the electricity situation and absorb their anger for two or three days without real solutions.”
