Nechirvan Barzani Discusses With The British Ambassador The Upcoming Elections, The Security Situation And Confronting ISIS

Baghdad The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, discussed with the new British Ambassador, Mark Bryson Richardson, the upcoming elections and the security situation to confronting ISIS.

A statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency stated that, Barzani received the new British ambassador and wished him success in his work and expressed to him the full support and backing of the Kurdistan Region to him in the success of his tasks.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed, according to the statement, strengthening Iraq and the region’s relations with Britain, expanding the areas of cooperation and partnership between them, the upcoming elections, the security situation, and the threats and operations of ISIS terrorists.

The two sides also discussed the tasks of the international coalition against ISIS in Iraq, coordination between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army to confront terrorists, and developments in the outbreak of the Coronavirus and confronting it in Iraq and Britain.

It was also emphasized the desire of both sides to strengthen the relations of the Kurdistan region and Britain and the investment opportunities available in Iraq and the Kurdistan region for British companies.

The Iraqi-American strategic dialogue, the Syrian issue, and the latest developments in the region also occupied another focus of the meeting, which was attended by Mel Smart, the British Acting Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, and a British political and military delegation.
