Baghdad, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Friday that his country was committed to Afghanistan and would “work with the Taliban if necessary.”
In his interview with reporters, he explained that “the situation is improving a little at Kabul Airport,” noting that “the logistical challenges can be overcome.”
He pointed out that the procedures for evacuating British nationals and Afghan refugees are going well, at a rate of 1,000 people per day.
Asked if he still trusted Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, who has faced calls to resign over his handling of the Afghan crisis, Johnson said: “I certainly do.”
Raab had defended his reaction to the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan on Friday, saying that media coverage of his actions had been inaccurate and that the government had worked hard to evacuate citizens and those wishing to leave.
