Before the G7 summit meeting, Biden and Johnson discuss evacuation efforts from Afghanistan

Baghdad The White House said that US President Joe Biden discussed today, Monday, with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the evacuation efforts from Afghanistan.

They stressed, according to a statement, the importance of close coordination in managing the current crisis, as well as policy towards Afghanistan, before an online meeting of the leaders of the Group of Seven countries, tomorrow, Tuesday.

He added: “Biden and Johnson discussed the ongoing efforts of our diplomats and military to evacuate citizens, local staff, and other Afghans at risk.”

The Pentagon had announced, earlier today, that about 16,000 people had been evacuated from Afghanistan through Kabul airport during the last 24 hours, at a time when the pace of international evacuations was accelerating before the August 31 deadline.
