Baghdad The European Union affirmed its support for the Iraqi government in its efforts to hold free, fair and inclusive elections owned and led by Iraqis.
A Foreign Ministry statement said today that, during the Luxembourg Foreign Affairs Council, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Affairs / Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell reiterated to Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein the European Union’s support for Iraq in the upcoming elections on October 10.
The European official announced, “At the invitation of the Iraqi authorities, the European Union decided to deploy an election observation mission.”
He affirmed, “The European Union once again supports the Iraqi government in its efforts to hold free, fair and inclusive elections owned and led by Iraqis, with full respect for Iraq’s sovereignty.”
