The Minister of Foreign Affairs confirms that Iraq will not allow it to be a war zone

 

Baghdad (NINA) – Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein affirmed that Iraq will not allow it to be a battlefield.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that the Minister met today, Monday, with his Canadian counterpart, Marc Garneau, on the sidelines of his participation in the meeting of the international coalition to defeat the terrorist organization ISIS in Rome, and they discussed the latest developments in Iraq.

During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of achieving partnership between Iraq and Canada, praising Canada’s efforts within the international coalition to combat ISIS.

He stressed that, Iraq will not allow it to be a battlefield, calling for the need to respect Iraqi sovereignty, and to stop violations, stressing Iraq’s adherence to its sovereignty and strengthening that by maintaining coordination and communication with various parties and through diplomatic initiatives and endeavors.

The Minister referred to the efforts of the Iraqi government in confronting the remaining pockets of terrorism, in addition to supporting Iraq in fighting its extremist ideology.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also discussed the Iraqi government’s preparations to hold the elections on schedule, according to criteria and conditions that restore the Iraqi people’s confidence in the feasibility of political participation.

For his part, the Canadian Foreign Minister expressed his country’s support for Iraq’s efforts to achieve security and stability, stressing the continuation of cooperation between the two countries and work on de-escalation and preventing escalation.
