Baghdad Minister of Foreign Affairs Fouad Hussein affirmed Iraq’s desire to continue working and cooperating with the international coalition to combat the terrorist organization ISIS.
In Iraq’s speech during the meeting of the International Coalition to defeat the terrorist organization ISIS held in Rome, the Minister valued the international efforts and the efforts of the coalition countries for their continuous support to Iraq in the field of combating terrorism, restoring stability and reconstruction in the liberated areas of Iraqi territory, and training Iraqi forces.
He clarified the position of the Iraqi government on the issue of terrorism, as the government worked to take measures aimed at eradicating these groups to their inevitable end and to achieve that common goal by sustaining the cooperation of the countries of the international coalition. He referred to the government’s work in the field of capacity-building for various types of armed forces in the face of terrorism, and the strengthening of the judicial system in line with international norms and human rights principles, and Iraq’s commitments to relevant Security Council resolutions.
He referred to the Iraqi government’s preparations for holding the upcoming elections during next October and the importance of these elections for the future of Iraq.
The Minister thanked the countries that supported Iraq’s request in the Security Council to strengthen the procedures for monitoring the elections and to ensure their integrity. He referred to the Iraqi government’s interest in the displaced and their voluntary return, and considered this a priority, as this file witnessed qualitative developments, pointing to continuous national efforts to remove injustice and the injustice and obscurantism of terrorism befalling the Iraqi components.
He pointed out that the House of Representatives approved the law of Yazidi survivors, and this step had a significant impact in supporting the victims of the terrorist organization ISIS and ensuring that its members are held accountable for their criminal acts.
The Minister affirmed Iraq’s desire to continue working and cooperating with the international coalition to combat the terrorist organization ISIS and urged member states to continue support in the field of capacity development, stability and reconstruction, and the need to support Iraq’s sovereignty, indicating that everyone should not violate its sovereignty, and respect Iraqi laws. He praised the great role of the Iraqi forces, including the army, the Popular Mobilization, the Peshmerga, the police, and all the security forces.
