Baghdad The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) clarified the terms of the memorandum of understanding signed with the European Union Mission to monitor the October 2021 elections.
The IHEC said in a statement: “The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Judge Jalil Adnan Khalaf, signed yesterday evening, Sunday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad, a memorandum of understanding with the European Union Mission to monitor the elections of the Iraqi Parliament 2021, where its head, Ambassador Martin Huth, signed on behalf of the mission.”
The most important items of the MoU included that the Electoral Commission provide the members of the European Union mission with information related to the elections and as deemed by the Board of Commissioners throughout the duration of the electoral process, as well as facilitating the access of the mission’s staff to polling and counting stations, and according to this memorandum the European Union Election Observation Mission deploys its staff and their escorts in the polling stations, and counting and sorting.
It stressed that the signing of this memorandum comes in the context of the final preparations for holding the elections on October 10, 2021, for which the Commission has completed all the necessary preparations to conduct them on their expected date.
