The United Nations Mission in Iraq welcomes France’s contribution to the project to support the upcoming elections in Iraq

Baghdad The United Nations in Iraq has welcomed a contribution from France of 500,000 euros to a UN-led project to monitor the upcoming Iraqi parliament elections on October 10, 2021.

French funding, according to a statement by the UN mission, will support the deployment of United Nations election observers in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2576 of 2021.

The French Ambassador to Iraq, Bruno Aubert, said, according to the statement, that the international community has responded positively to the request made by the Iraqi government to monitor the upcoming legislative elections.

“France is committed to supporting free, fair and credible elections in Iraq in response to the aspirations, rule of law and reforms expressed by Iraqi citizens,” he added.

On behalf of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), the United Nations Office for Project Services, signed the agreement with France to oversee the financing and management of the project.

The United Nations thanks France for its contribution, which enhances support for the process of holding credible and transparent elections in Iraq.
