Baghdad US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan confirmed: “The United States was aware of the possibility of the Taliban taking control of Afghanistan.”
Sullivan said in a press statement: “We were aware of the possibility of the Taliban taking over, and that was one of our calculations.”
“We are committed to completing the evacuation process from Afghanistan, and we bear responsibility for the fate of our allies and partners,” he added.
He continued, “We have a team that will communicate directly with the Taliban.”
