Biden: I directed strikes on two sites of the Iranian-backed factions in Syria and Iraq

Baghdad US President Joe Biden said today, Tuesday, that he had ordered air strikes against “facilities used by pro-Iranian factions” in Iraq and Syria, stressing that the purpose of these strikes is to “deter Iran and its affiliates.”

Biden confirmed, in a message to Congress published by the White House website, “On my instructions, on June 27, 2021, US forces launched strikes targeting facilities in two locations in Syria and one location in Iraq near the Iraqi-Syrian border.”

“These facilities have been used by Iranian-backed factions that have participated in a series of drone aerial and missile attacks against US personnel and facilities in Iraq,” he added.

Biden stressed: “These strikes are in order to protect and defend the safety of our personnel, weaken and disrupt the ongoing series of attacks against the United States and our partners, deter Iran and its affiliated factions, and prevent it from launching further attacks on United States personnel and facilities,” according to his claim.
