The Parliamentary Agriculture, Water and Marsh Committee warned of the danger of the upcoming winter agricultural plan being affected by the lack of strategic water storage.
The head of the committee, Salam Al-Shammari, said in a press statement that the strategic water reserves are sufficient for the summer agricultural season and the beginning of the next winter agricultural season,” stressing: “This matter is dangerous and threatens to falter the next winter agricultural plan.”
Al-Shammari added that the concerned executive authorities should intensify their efforts with the countries of the source of the Tigris, Euphrates and tributary rivers, Turkey and Iran, in order not to reduce the proportion of water entering Iraq.”
The Prime Minister called for intensifying his contacts with the leaders of the two countries in order to work to guarantee Iraq’s share and limit the use of the water card for other considerations, without considering the strong ties that unite Iraq with Turkey and Iran
