Al-Araji Assures The EU’s Ambassador Of Iraq’s Commitment To Protecting And Securing Diplomatic Missions

Baghdad The National Security Adviser, Qassem Al-Araji, affirmed Iraq’s commitment to protecting and securing diplomatic missions.

During his meeting with the Ambassador of the European Union in Baghdad, Wille Variola, and his accompanying delegation, Al-Araji pointed to the stability of the security situation in Iraq with the continuation of the efforts of the security forces in combating the ISIS terrorist, noting: “The security services continue to perform their duties away from any political debate, and that Iraq is committed to protect and secure diplomatic missions, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

On the other hand, the National Security Adviser warned, according to a statement by his media office, against losing control of those inside al-Hol camp, pointing out: “This would pose a danger to Iraq and the world.”

He stressed Iraq’s keenness not to compel Iraqi refugees in Europe whose applications were rejected, except in accordance with the principle of voluntary return and the availability of appropriate conditions, stressing: “Iraq is keen to protect, embrace and care for its children wherever they are, while continuing to cooperate with the European Union in combating refugee smuggling.”

Al-Araji expressed Iraq’s welcome to any cooperation with the European Union in all fields, especially the field of cyber security, explaining: “Iraq does not want to put pressure on freedoms as much as preserving the country’s security and stability.”

For his part, the European Union ambassador stressed “the importance of Iraq’s role in the Middle East and the world,” noting “the European Union’s continued cooperation with Iraq in the field of combating extremism leading to terrorism.”

He praised Iraq’s efforts in addressing the Iraqi refugee crisis in Belarus, and the Iraqi government’s keenness to take quick measures that resulted in their return to their country and prevented the problem from turning into a humanitarian crisis, praising “the procedures for voluntary return from Al-Hol camp to Iraq.”

He stressed the continuation of the European Union’s support for Iraq, in all fields.
