Baquba Member of the parliament of Diyala Governorate, Nahida Al-Dayni, called for UN intervention and supervision of the upcoming parliamentary elections, warning of violations that threaten the electoral process and undermine its course.

Al-Dayni said to the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / today that “the United Nations must take an active role in supervising the elections, especially in the hot and mixed governorates, including Diyala and Salah al-Din, to prevent violations due to threats and tense conditions and the control of influential parties over the course of the security situation in those provinces.

She indicated that “there is a fear among the candidates of political targeting or assassination, warning of the unstable conditions in the election centers and the confiscation of the rights of other candidates and their public and electoral entitlements by certain parties.”

She said that there are concerns restricting the movement of candidates in their areas of mass influence in Diyala, stressing the need to “address them and avoid adverse results for the upcoming elections, and perhaps derail them from their democratic and national path.”
