Baghdad Minister of Interior Othman Al-Ghanimi expressed his rejection of the demonstrators’ approach to their demands to burn roads, close government departments, and attack security forces during the demonstrations in Dhi Qar. He called on the sheikhs of the province and civil organizations to reject the riots.
Al-Ghanimi said during the joint press conference with the governor of Dhi Qar Ahmed Al-Khafaji: We reject the attack on the security forces because they were found to serve the people, and we call for the demonstrations to be peaceful and we demand the security forces to support them.
He added: We have consulted with the governor of Dhi Qar to assess the security situation in the province, and we will make the necessary changes that are within our powers and that are outside our powers, and we will communicate them to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in order to take the necessary measures and changes.
For his part, the Governor of Dhi Qar, Ahmed Al-Khafaji, said: The visit of the Minister of Interior came under the guidance of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to closely follow the security situation in Dhi Qar.
He affirmed his rejection of the protesters’ approach to their demands to burn roads and close government departments in the governorate by force.
