Al-Gharawi: The stay of the displaced in the camps is a flagrant violation of their right to housing, security and safety

Baghdad The expert in the field of human rights, Fadel Al-Gharawi, confirmed that the continued existence of 26 camps for the displaced after eight years represents a major violation of their rights.

Al-Gharawi said in a statement that most of the displaced children and women live in difficult humanitarian conditions in tents that do not protect them from the summer heat and the cold winter.

He added that the difficult humanitarian conditions in the camps, in addition to psychological trauma and their failure to return to their areas, are the main reasons that led to the suicide of some of the displaced, most of whom were girls who were kidnapped by ISIS terrorist gangs.

Al-Gharawi indicated that the failure to complete the file of compensation and the restoration of infrastructure for the destroyed areas, the existence of problems of peaceful coexistence, security and administrative problems, the lack of job opportunities and the provision of economic resources are the reasons that prevent the voluntary return of the displaced so far.

Al-Gharawi called on the government, the Ministry of Immigration and the United Nations to end this suffering and work to close all the camps and return the displaced voluntarily and address all the problems that prevent their return and consider this file a governmental and humanitarian priority .
