Al-Ghazi _The government is showing great interest in developing the ancient city of Ur

Baghdad The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghazi, confirmed that the Iraqi government has shown great interest in the project to develop the ancient city of Ur, especially after the city received international attention after the visit of His Holiness the Vatican, noting: “The development process will contribute to reviving reality of economy of Dhi Qar Governorate and providing thousands of job opportunities.

Al-Ghazi said while presiding over the meeting of the committee concerned with developing the city, that “the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers worked to allocate the necessary funds for the development of infrastructure through the Dhi Qar Governorate Reconstruction Fund, and that the committee reached advanced stages in preparing the basic designs for the new city, in coordination with the local county administration.”

Al-Ghazi directed the members of the committee to determine the priority of the projects to be implemented, provided that they take on a heritage and historical character in a modern style, and the need to establish a mechanism for starting the first phase of the project after approving the designs, which includes the establishment of a center for interfaith dialogue and exchange of cultures, a mosque and a church, as well as buildings for basic services, which will be presented to visitors
