Baghdad Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi confirmed that the government has spared Iraq a “civil war.”
He said in a televised interview that the first option was for the government to fulfill the demands of the demonstrators and the religious authority, and the other possibility was to enter into conflicts with groups that might lead to civil war, and I chose the other way to contain, extinguish the fires, and provide a safe environment for the elections.
Al-Kadhimi explained, “the current government is firm, not as it is accused, and made strong decisions, but we will not announce many of them in order not to give some politicians an opportunity to promote.”
He added, “We will not retreat from the fight against corruption, and that the specialized committee headed by Lieutenant General Ahmed Abu Ragheef is subjected to false accusations, including torturing the accused, and this is what we refuted by visiting the accused.”
Al-Kadhimi continued: We will not stop fighting corruption and the corrupt, even if some carry out their threat to topple the government and are ready to sacrifice everything.
