Baghdad Head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, stressed the need to immunize Iraq from the impact of foreign interference on the upcoming elections.
The media office of the Head of the Coalition stated: “Al-Maliki met in his office today, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, and during the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations, enhancing means of cooperation in the economic, security and counter-terrorism fields, as well as a number of topics of common interest.”
The two sides discussed the challenges facing the political process and the upcoming elections in Iraq. Al-Maliki stressed the importance of broad participation in the elections as a true expression of the declared popular will to adhere to and strengthen democracy to build a democratic system capable of facing challenges.
The head of the State of Law coalition stressed the need to immunize Iraq from the impact of external interference on the upcoming elections and the need to prevent it so that the decision of the Iraqi voter would be independent of the impact of these interventions and in the interest of Iraq and Iraqis, stressing on providing the necessary security environment for the success of the electoral process.
For his part, Ambassador Kutrashev stressed the continuation of cooperation between his country and Iraq in various fields, in addition to its support in holding free and fair elections that guarantee wide participation of the Iraqi people.
