BAGHDAD, The United States has granted Iraq a 90-day exemption from sanctions against Iran to continue paying electricity bills imported from Iran, the Foreign Ministry said.

“Washington will continue to work with Baghdad to end its dependence on Iranian natural gas and increase its independence in the field of energy,” al-Hurra TV Channel quoted a US official as saying. “These efforts will continue to support Iraq’s use of its natural resources, activating its economy and development and encouraging a prosperous democratic Iraq.

“The United States will pursue talks with its partners in Iraq on sanctions related to Iran,” it said.
