Baghdad / NINA / – The specialist in economic affairs, Dhurgham Muhammad Ali, called on the Parliament’s Finance Committee to monitor the government’s implementation of the budget law and prevent financial violations.
Muhammad Ali said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / that “the oversight mission is no less important than the legislative task of the House of Representatives, so the entire parliament, including the Finance Committee, is required to follow up on the implementation of the budget law that the majority of its members voted on and became effective, and the government as an executive body stick with it”.
He stressed that “the parliament should take a firm stance towards the government in the event that it sent the region’s share other than the budget law, as the region’s government did not adhere (as usual) to the law and did not send any federal dues, therefore it does not deserve any amounts from the budget,” noting: The region’s commitment to the law was expected, which is what it has been doing for 18 years, benefiting from the governments’ submission to its political blackmail to give it what it does not deserve.
He pointed out that “Parliament is required to take the judicial path to hold the government and its head accountable in the event that they commit any financial violation of the budget law.”
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, had announced that an agreement had been reached with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi to send the region’s financial dues retroactively from January 2021. / End
