Baghdad An informed source confirmed: “The main reason behind postponing the 25th Gulf Championship to January 2023 is due to the failure to complete the deficiencies indicated by the inspection committees in Basra.”

The source said to the National Iraqi News Agency “The time remaining for the supposed date of the tournament is a few days, and the observations made by the inspection committees were not completed, whether the al-Mina stadium or the airport road, hotels and many details.”

He indicated: “These details are impossible to address in the remaining time, and therefore encouraged the Federation of Gulf States to take the decision to postpone, especially since the calendar of tournaments this year is crowded.”

He pointed out: “Postponing the file to 2023 will not cancel Iraq’s right to host, and there will be plenty of time for Iraq to complete the tournament file at an early date.
