An Interested in the affairs of the marshes: The lack of water that reaches the marshes in Maysan causes them to dry up

Al-Amarah The Environmental Expert concerned with the affairs of the marshes in Maysan, Ahmed Saleh Ne’ma, attributed the reasons for the drying of the governorate’s marshes, to the lack of water reaching them and the release of most of them towards Basra governorate.

Ne’ma said that Maysan Governorate witnessed the drying up of very large areas of its marshes during the past two months, indicating that the release of large quantities of water from the Tigris River towards Basra to push the salt tongue without directing it to the branch rivers leading to the marshes of the governorate is one of the reasons for the lack of water reaching the marshes .

Ne’ma pointed out that the Tigris River, which passes in Maysan, is filled with water, but it is launched towards Basra to block the salt tongue in the Shatt al-Arab in the Basra Governorate, pointing to the subsidiary rivers, “Al-Mashrah, Al-Kahla, Al-Batira, Al-Majar Al-Kabir and Al-Saghir, which suffer from a very large water scarcity.”
