Baghdad The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, discussed on Tuesday with British Ambassador Mike Bryson Richardson the importance of the international community’s support for the democratic process in Iraq.
A statement by the Kurdistan Region Presidency stated: During the meeting, they discussed the meeting of the political process in Iraq, the parliamentary elections and their results, the first session of the Iraqi Parliament, the election of the Presidency of the Parliament, relations between the political parties, shedding light on the parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, the constitution-writing process, and the importance of the international community’s support for the democratic process in Iraq.
Barzani stressed that Iraq and the Kurdistan region need security and stability in order to be able to implement a program that is in the interest of all components of Iraq.
He reiterated that the Kurdistan Region is committed to holding the elections on time, and that the constitution must be inclusive and satisfactory to all, and that coordination with Baghdad also takes place for this purpose.
The two sides stressed the consolidation of relations between Iraq and the Kurdistan region with Britain.
The British side commended President Nechirvan Barzani’s efforts in strengthening relations with Britain and the region’s relations with neighboring countries.
