Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said the meeting of the coalition against Daesh comes to ensure security and stability in Iraq, independence and sovereignty over its territory and to assist Iraq in the reconstruction process.

“We are all aware of the great efforts that Iraq has made, and with the help of the international coalition, which culminated in defeating Daesh in Iraqi territory and as we have made efforts in wartime, we must make a greater effort in time of peace,” he said in a speech at the ministerial meeting of the International Coalition countries. .

“At the initiative of the Amir of Kuwait, Kuwait hosted this conference, which coincided with the conference to reconstruct Iraq in order to ensure security and stability in Iraq, independence and sovereignty on its territory and to create conditions for the reconstruction of Iraq,” he said.

“Despite the positive developments and the remarkable results on the ground after a humiliating defeat of Daesh, the international community continues still face a direct threat from armed terrorist groups.” He said, added “It is important that our coalition begin to create new horizons in the framework of continuing international efforts and joint coordination in combating terrorism and follow-up and develop the strategy drawn up by the coalition to fight the Daesh organization.

Al-Sabah expressed the hope that the efforts of the Iraqi government will successfully contribute to building and strengthening its capabilities to ensure that there is no return of the Daesh terrorist threat.

From the responsibility of the coalition against Daesh and the keenness of closer cooperation and coordination among its members, Kuwait has hosted five previous security meetings, all of which are aimed at strengthening international security,” he said.

He concluded by saying that we look forward to achieving tangible results from this conference to complete the successes achieved by this coalition and to find an international mechanism and strategy that can be used and applied on the ground, protecting and safeguarding the international community from the extremes of extremism and terrorism.

On Tuesday morning, the ministerial meeting of the International Coalition against Daesh organization began with a broad international participation represented by the presence of 74 members of the countries and international organizations supporting the coalition.

The meeting is part of the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq and as part of the ongoing international efforts and joint coordination in the field of combating terrorism and following up the strategy of the coalition to fight Daesh organization.
