Speaker of Parliament Salim al-Jubouri stressed the importance of continuing international support for Iraq, especially the relief of the displaced and work on the reconstruction of liberated areas and the return of displaced people as soon as possible.
“Iraq is looking forward to a bigger role by the United Nations to support the reconstruction of the affected cities as a result of the terrorist operations that were exposed to it during the control of the terrorist organization,” Al-Jubouri said during a meeting with UN Special Representative to Iraq Jan Kubic.
“The House of Representatives is working on amending the election law and preparing all the necessary measures for holding the elections within their constitutional time and in a way that guarantees the rights of all.”
“During the meeting, the latest developments in the political, security and humanitarian situation were reviewed,” the statement said.
For his part, Kubic said that the United Nations, with the assistance of international organizations, seeks to provide all means of aid and relief for the displaced people and work to return them to their areas in coordination with the relevant authorities
