Election of Iraq as a member of the Permanent Independent Human Rights Commission of the OIC

Iraq’s candidate, Ambassador Omar Al-Barzanji, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Legal Affairs, won the membership of the Permanent Independent Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (on behalf of the Arab Group).

A statement by the Ministry stated: Ambassador Abdul Rahman Al-Husseini, Undersecretary for Administrative and Technical Affairs, headed the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participating in the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for the period 16-17 March 2023, and the holding of elections on the sidelines of the conference.

The Ministry’s statement added: Iraq’s victory in this membership is considered a victory for all Arabs, and it is complementary to the march that Iraq seeks to strengthen its Arab environment and its prominent role in the group of Islamic countries.

The statement congratulated the brothers in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arab Republic of Egypt for obtaining the same membership.
