FAO: Ten Arab Countries, Including Iraq, Need External Assistance To Secure Food

Baghdad / NINA / – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced today, Saturday, that ten Arab countries, including Iraq, need external assistance for food due to internal climate-related conflicts.

“The impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily in terms of income losses, have exacerbated vulnerabilities and increased current levels of food insecurity,” the Rome-based organization said in a report.

It indicated that “10 Arab countries need external assistance for food, as climate-related conflicts and clashes continue to reinforce high levels of severe food insecurity.”

It noted that “Iraq is among these ten countries that need foreign food assistance, in addition to Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, Sudan, Libya, Djibouti, Eritrea, Mauritania and Somalia.”/ End
