Baghdad Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein received, at his residence in New York, the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anne Linde, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Minister affirmed that all the necessary preparations for holding the elections on schedule have been completed, stressing that they will be a strong pillar for building the future of the political and democratic process in Iraq, praising the efforts of regional and international organizations, including the European Union, which will send a mission to monitor the elections to ensure their integrity and transparency.
For her part, the Swedish Foreign Minister praised the progress and development of bilateral relations between the two countries, expressing her hope that this development would continue to include all sectors.
It also appreciated the efforts made by Iraq in holding the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership and its outputs that will be positively reflected on security and stability in the region.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the minister expressed his gratitude to the Government of Sweden for the assistance and support it provided to Iraq, looking forward to the contribution of Swedish companies to investment in Iraq in the fields of energy and infrastructure restoration.
