Baghdad / NINA / – Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein expressed his thanks to the Government of the Republic of Russia and its Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its position in support of Iraq’s request from the Security Council to send observers to monitor the electoral process.
A ministry statement stated that: The Minister stressed to his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, by phone, the importance of holding elections to build the correct foundations for the democratic system in Iraq, discussing bilateral relations and the need to push commercial relations to broader areas, emphasizing the important role that Russian oil companies play in Iraq.
The two ministers stressed the need to prepare a broad and diversified agenda for the next meeting of the Iraqi-Russian committee, which will be held in Moscow next month, to come up with results that serve the economic reality and expand the scope of trade exchange between the two friendly countries.
Within the framework of the regional situation, the two ministers discussed the Palestinian situation and the need to support the Palestinians to reach their legitimate goals, and expressed their concern about the emergence of some internal differences among the Palestinians, and stressed the need to resolve these differences and unify the Palestinian ranks.
On the other hand, the two ministers discussed the Syrian situation and the values of the Iraqi position that supports Syria’s return to its seat in the Arab League.
The two ministers reiterated the need for continuity of communication and joint action in areas of concern to security and stability in the region.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s support to the Iraqi government in its efforts to restore security and stability, and to eliminate terrorism.
The Russian minister evaluated communication and work to solve the outstanding problems between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, in a positive way, as it serves stability and leads to better coordination to fight ISIS terrorists./End
