Baghdad Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein affirmed that Iraq is continuing its efforts to return Syria to its seat in the Arab League.
A Foreign Ministry statement said, “The Minister met his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Miqdad, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and opening new horizons for joint action, in addition to reviewing the overall developments in the Arab, regional regions, and international levels.
The minister said, “The stability of Syria concerns Iraq, and the unstable security situation and the presence of ISIS and other terrorist organizations in Syria is also a threat to the stability and security of Iraq.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed, “Iraq is continuing its efforts to return Syria to its seat in the Arab League.”
For his part, the Syrian Foreign Minister affirmed his keenness to activate bilateral relations in all fields, and to intensify political dialogues between the two countries.
Miqdad said: “The victories that have been achieved against terrorism in Syria and Iraq are common victories, stressing that Iraq today has imposed itself on the issues of the region, and we must continue to work together to maintain security and stability, and face the challenges facing the region.”
The Syrian minister praised the great efforts made by Iraq and the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the past period towards Syria and Arab, regional and international issues
