Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari stressed the depth of relations between Baghdad and Damascus and Iraq’s keenness to upgrade them to achieve the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples.
“Jaafari met with Syrian Interior Minister Mohammed al-Sha’ar and discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation to ensure security and stability in both countries and the whole region,” a foreign ministry statement said.
During the meeting, the Syrian minister expressed his country’s congratulations to Iraq on its victory over the terrorist gangs, calling for expansion of cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism, because it represents the common enemy, adding that our enemy is one and we hope to eliminate it in both countries.
