Foreign Ministry: Algeria Is One Of The Pivotal Countries In Arab Maghreb, And Coordination Must Continue With It To Serve Arab Interests And Issues

Baghdad Iraq confirmed that Algeria is one of the pivotal countries in the Arab Maghreb (west), and coordination between the two countries must continue in various fields to serve Arab interests and issues, particularly the Palestinian cause.

A Foreign Ministry statement said that Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein met his Algerian counterpart Sabri Boukadoum on the sidelines of the consultative meeting of Arab foreign ministers hosted by the State of Qatar.

During the meeting, the minister expressed Iraq’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, explaining that Iraq seeks to strengthen relations with Algeria in a more effective political, cultural and economic manner.

The minister added, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that “Iraq considers Algeria one of the pivotal countries in the Arab Maghreb, and coordination between the two countries must continue in various fields in a way that serves the interests and Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause.”

He called on investors from both countries to work together, exchange experiences, open new horizons for bilateral relations between the two countries, and bridge cooperation in the interest of the two peoples.

For his part, the Algerian Foreign Minister affirmed that Iraq is a brotherly country, and the Iraqi and Algerian peoples have historically many commonalities, indicating that Algeria is open to Iraq, and is ready to cooperate in various fields: cultural, economic, societal, and security.

Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein extended an official invitation to his Algerian counterpart to visit Iraq to strengthen relations between the two brotherly countries.

The meeting was attended, according to the statement, by the Iraqi ambassador to the State of Qatar Omar Al-Barzanji, the head of the Arab department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Osama Mahdi Ghanem, Adviser Ban Ali Kadhim, and the Algerian ambassador to Doha.
