Basra The General Company for Ports of Iraq discussed with the consultant of the Italian company / Tecnental / the designs for the Shatt Al-Arab Dam in Basra.
The Director General of Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said, according to a company statement: “The presentation made by the Italian consultant, Alessandro Ferali, needs answers to some questions related to the location of the dam and the environmental impact of its construction,” noting: “Everything related to the dam will be discussed with the departments concerned with its construction to reach best conclusion solutions according to the best design.
Al-Fartousi added: “Working with the Italian company will be in accordance with the scientific frameworks in force in the world’s dams, which will lead to positive results to reach the elimination of the problem of salinity and water scarcity to serve humans and revive agricultural lands and livestock.”
For his part, the Italian company’s consultant said: “The study related to the dam needs some time to find out the environmental impact that the dam will cause and the treatments that will be put in place to avoid any negative effects,” noting: “The soil studies are available to the company, but the general issue now is to know the best place to build the dam.”
