Guterres condemns the attack on Abu Dhabi airport and calls on everyone to exercise restraint

Baghdad United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack that targeted Abu Dhabi airport in the United Arab Emirates, on Monday, calling on “all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prevent any escalation.”

Spokesman for the Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, said in a press conference held at the permanent headquarters of the International Organization in New York: “Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned today’s attacks on Abu Dhabi International Airport and the adjacent Mussafah Industrial Area, which caused a number of civilian casualties and the Houthis claimed responsibility for them.”

The spokesperson noted that “international humanitarian law prohibits attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.”

He added, “The Secretary-General of the United Nations calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and prevent any escalation amid rising tensions in the region.”

He continued, “Guterres affirms that there is no military solution to the conflict in Yemen, and urges the parties to engage constructively and without preconditions with his Special Envoy (Hans) Grundberg and his mediation efforts with the aim of advancing the political process to reach a comprehensive negotiated settlement to end the conflict in Yemen.
