Baghdad / NINA / – Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Sheikh Hammam Hammoudi affirmed that the Iraqi national forces are looking forward to holding fair and transparent elections, with broad popular participation, and international monitoring, stressing that elections are the only option for stability in Iraq through the gateway to the peaceful transfer of power.

During his meeting with the new Russian ambassador, Elbrus Kutrashef, in Baghdad, he welcomed the international follow-up to the democratic electoral process, and any international initiatives that serve the interests of its people and support the political process, noting his rejection of any foreign dictates or interference in his internal affairs.

For his part, the Russian ambassador indicated that: Iraq, despite all the difficult circumstances, it has gone through and the challenges it faces, has a promising future, and Baghdad retains its position as the capital of civilization and history, noting Russia’s distinguished relations with the Islamic Supreme Council and its pride in cooperating with it to serve the interests of both countries. / End
