Human rights center: The general population census will be the road map for strategic projects in the country

Baghdad, The Strategic Center for Human Rights in Iraq called on the Prime Minister to expedite the population census.

Lawyer Hazem Al-Rudaini, deputy head of the center, confirmed in a statement: “The need to allocate the necessary funds to conduct the census within the 2023 budget, as it was too late.”

Al-Rudaini said: “The census, if conducted, will be a road map for strategic projects in the country, especially in the sectors of education, health and other services, and the distribution of wealth and projects in each governorate on the basis of actual need and not on political bases and electoral interests.”

The last population census in Iraq was conducted in 1997, and the population of Iraq at that time, excluding the provinces of the Kurdistan region, reached nineteen million five hundred thousand people.
