Human Rights Commission: Peaceful Demonstration In Iraq Marred By Numerous Violations

Baghdad A member of the Commission for Human Rights, Fadel Al-Gharawi, confirmed that the peaceful demonstration in Iraq was marred by many violations.

Al-Gharawi said in a statement that: Freedom of opinion, expression, assembly and peaceful demonstration was marred by many violations due to the lack of laws regulating it and enhancing its protection.

Al-Gharawi added that: the October demonstrations highlighted the urgent need for Parliament to speed up the legislation of the Law on Freedom of Opinion, Expression, Assembly and Peaceful Demonstration to contribute to organizing and supporting this right and protecting the citizen in exercising it without any restrictions.

He explained that the existence of such a law would contribute to strengthening democracy in Iraq and would enhance Iraq’s rank in the field of human rights.
