Baghdad, The Municipality of Baghdad confirmed its commitment to the directives of the Prime Minister not to prejudice the street vendors and not to remove a roof from the poor families and to proceed with its new plan and philosophy to remove encroachments.
A statement by the Municipality of Baghdad stated that “the Baghdad Municipality continues to work according to the Prime Minister’s directives, implement campaigns to remove encroachments and prepare extensive plans, after it received a great interaction from citizens and the philosophy of the Mayor of Baghdad Alaa Maan, through activating and encouraging voluntary removal, which has proven successful in several areas such as Al-Fallah and Safi Al-Din Streets in Al-Rusafa side of Baghdad and Al-Washash in Al-Mansour and other areas in the capital.”
The statement continued, “What was stated in the meeting that took place between the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hassan Al-Kaabi, match with the direction of the Baghdad Municipality in its philosophy regarding encroachments by not compromising the livelihoods of poor citizens, especially street vendors who own mobile display table (not fixed).”
The statement pointed out that “the campaigns to remove encroachments throughout the city of Baghdad include the encroachments of commercial shop and fixed structures, which encroach the sidewalk and the street.”
The Municipality of Baghdad confirmed that “work is underway to find constant squares as an alternative for street vendors with modern designs and not to prejudice the houses of poor people until the completion of studies and plans related to addressing their reality
