BAGHDAD, IRAQ Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday called for overcoming differences between Tehran and Riyadh, saying the Gulf region needs a new mechanism for dialogue.

"The confrontation between Tehran and Riyadh is not necessary, and it is important to end this problem," the Iranian minister said in the framework of the Middle East conference of the Valdai club in Moscow.

"We should look for a new mechanism of action between Iran and its neighbors in the Gulf region," Zarif said.

Zarif and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov are taking part in the opening session of the Valdai Forum devoted to Russian policy in the region.

The Forum, which its session this year holds the title , "Russia in the Middle East is a player in every arena", will focus on the most important challenges facing the Middle East, as well as the options and ways to overcome them and move the region to a more secure and stable stage./ End
