Baghdad Iraq and Finland discussed raising the pace of bilateral cooperation at various political, economic, health and development levels.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein met with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, on the sidelines of the Manama Dialogue Forum 2022, held in Bahrain.

The minister stressed the importance of strengthening aspects of bilateral relations by diversifying the frameworks of consultation to contribute to achieving the aspirations of Baghdad and Helsinki, and to raise the pace of bilateral cooperation for the overall ongoing efforts, and at various political, economic, health , and development levels for the benefit of both countries.

The minister pointed to the role that Iraq played to bring together the regional parties, and this was embodied in a number of meetings and conferences hosted by Baghdad, bringing views closer and moving forward on the right path, the last of which was the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership to ease tensions in the region and create positive dialogue.

According to the statement, the two sides discussed several issues related to solving the obstacles facing Iraq in the file of Iraqi migration and refugees and ways of cooperation between the two sides to work on the integration of refugees into Finnish society, and to discuss the voluntary return of those who wish to do so and to facilitate all obstacles that prevent their return to their homeland.
